Anthony Caulfield was arraigned on Wednesday, June 28, and released on $75,000 unsecured bail, said District Attorney Matthew Weintraub's Office in a release.

The accident, authorities say, happened on Jan. 6 around 3 p.m. Sixty-four-year-old Francis Patrick Montgomery was riding his bike along North Broad Street, near the Central Bucks police building, when he was hit by a white Honda van, according to the DA's Office.

The van, witnesses said, fled south toward Main Street.

Montgomery sustained a bilateral skull fracture, broken ribs, and a nasal bone fracture and was placed on a ventilator, police said. He died from his injuries on Feb. 9.

Investigators claim that the van's in-car camera system captured Caulfield passing into the left lane to go around Montgomery, "then accelerat(ing) away from the accident" after a "thump" is heard.

Caulfield, of Doylestown, is charged with a felony count of accidents involving death and misdemeanor counts of simple assault, reckless endangerment, and possessing an instrument of crime.

He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on July 24, court records show.
